Now setting aside conservation area appraisals and assessments, village design statements and neighbourhood planning, we were surprised to learn that we have a 97% success rate with applications.  With no frills or spills - its our 30 years plus experience, extensive knowledge of the planning process, legislation, expertise on heritage matters and good old common sense that brings measure and balance to client's aspirations and projects.

This last quarter of 2019 has taken us from Hampshire, West Sussex, East Sussex to Kent, Surrey, Essex and South London!  We have worked on a  variety of cases - extensions to dwellings; new individual houses; alterations/extensions/refurbishments of listed buildings; barn conversions; preparing supporting planning, design & access and heritage statements; neighbourhood planning projects and appeals including a 4-day public inquiry acting as the planning expert witness. 

We have also been fortunate to work with  great clients - other Consultancies, Local Planning Authorities, development companies and individual homeowners! 

A number of our applications and those that we have been involved in have received planning permission and/or listed building consent, and are underway - sometimes we even get to see the results of our hard work. 

The sad note was of course seeing the Claremont Hotel, Eastbourne in flames! After securing listed building consent for replacement windows with the last floor completed earlier this year, it is not a pleasant sight! 

2020 will bring new challenges for us as we review where we are, what we do and how we grow, adapt  and change!

We have been cataloguing work stored on various computers, on back drives, CDs, and paper copies to ensure we have a record of TCS' work.

Having played a role in the improvements to Epsom's Market Place, we are looking forward to seeing the completion of the scheme and a more befitting location for the 'Evocation of Speed' bronze statue by the world-renowned equestrian artist, Judy Boy. It depicts Diomed, the winner of the first ever Derby in 1780 on one side, with Galileo, winner in 2001, on the other.  Improved paving, additional tree planting, seating and signage ..  Town centre improvements take time but the results are rewarding.

The later spelt my name wrong ...... but it doesn't change the outcome. An existing Doctor's Surgery facing closure now has a new home in a vacant public house. Thumbs up for a positive decision for a new community use.

We are experimenting with working from two bases - Hove and Newry. Today one of our employees is working out of 'The Hub Newry'.  So far so good .. a short walk from our Newry home and in the City's Business Improvement District. Great space with cafe on the ground floor and a roof top terrace.

Now in the process of merging the records of The Conservation Studio, hoping to continue the work of Chezel Bird and Eddie Booth. A hard act to follow! Hopefully we will do them justice!

But we have been working as well! Over the past few months we have been engaged in some major project work, submitted various planning and listed building applications across Kent, East and West Sussex as well as Hampshire, prepared supporting heritage statements, design guides and guidance etc.  Now as the summer approaches, the pace is picking up. As our circumstance change .. do we re-brand? Change our image? Redo the website? Pondering .. ]]>
